What do networks, blogging, the Internet and Ben Franklin have in common? Ross Smith explained to the Founders i
n his technology and blogging class that all four are related to communication. Franklin facilitated the spread of information as a printer in colonial America in a manner not unlike how the Internet spreads information today. With the advent of digital technology, communication between people became faster and easier than Franklin could have imagined. The students learned the finer points of blogging in Smith’s class, as well as the power connections between large groups of people can have on a society. Even Wikipedia, that ‘unreliable’ bane of high school English teachers, became an illustration of the power of communication. Smith explained that the user-generated content of the Wikipedia online dictionary illustrates how an open source Web site can be as accurate and timely (if not more so) than traditional books, newspapers and radio sources. Now that the Founders have perfected their blogging skills, you may browse their individuals blogs, which you can find under the ‘Founders’ tab on the BFTF Web site. Enjoy!
